In photography everything comes down to light. It is either the quantity of light, the direction, the speed it is captured or the colour. Photographers spend thousands of dollars on sophisticated studio lights as well as fancy cameras to get the pictures they need. One thing they can't fully control is th elight that comes from the sun. They are at the mercy of atmospheric conditions and sometimes are the big losers in the game of light.
Shooting during the Magic Hour The magic hour (or golden hour) is the first hour and last hour of sunlight in the day. The quality of light during those two periods is unlike anything you see during the day. The soft light is usually warmer and less harsh than mid-day. Watch out for the direction of the light and keep in mind that time pases and you have to make the most of the situation. If you are shooting at the end of the day you might consider a tripod to allow for longer exposres. |
